Bay State Physical Therapy Post-Acute COVID Care

Rehabilitation & Therapy

Bay State Physical Therapy is now providing care to support Post-Acute COVID Syndrome (PACS) patients by utilizing the Mount Sinai program model. The Post-Acute COVID Care provided by Bay State Physical Therapy is developed based on a multidisciplinary approach to aid COVID patients in their physical recovery in which physical therapy is identified as a critical component. Patients experiencing the functional impacts of PACS, and unable to return to their desired level of function, can benefit from supervised 1:1 care through Bay State.

For patients struggling to return to their desired functional level, physical therapy can help address deficits such as:

  1. Navigating stairs.

  2. Daily activities of living.

  3. Recreational tasks.

  4. Work-related activities.

Each individual's care is tailored to their needs and speed of their recovery. The services provided during care may include:

  1. Balance and falls assessment

  2. Exercises and telehealth therapy techniques to improve muscle function and range of motion

  3. Treatment of joint stiffness and mobility

  4. Aerobic exercise education and monitoring

  5. Walking assessment to improve and normalize pattern and ensure safety with community ambulation

  6. Education on current physical and functional level with respect to future goals and safe progression

  7. Strengthening exercises

  8. Ergonomic work positioning for ability to return to work

  9. Postural assessment and evaluation

  10. Neurological screening and treatment

Bay State Physical Therapy offers many care options as part of their Post-Acute COVID Care services. Options include care delivered in physical clinics, through telehealth sessions, or a combination of in-clinic and telehealth treatment. These choices empower patients to receive care without the obstacles of the current COVID environment.
